UK commercial vehicle sales fell 42.1% in March from a year earlier

According to the latest data released by the British Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of commercial vehicle registrations in the UK in March 2009 decreased significantly, by 42.1% year-on-year to 30,000,403 vehicles, and passenger vehicle sales fell by 30%.

In March, the sales volume of light commercial vehicles was 28,822, a decrease of 42.8% year-on-year, and that of heavy-duty commercial vehicles was 4,211, a decrease of 37 percentage points year-on-year. In addition, the sales volume of commercial vehicles in the UK fell by 44.3% year-on-year to 508,091 units in the first quarter, of which sales of light commercial vehicles were 48,864, a decrease of 45.6% year-on-year.

Paul Everitt, CEO of the British Automotive Manufacturers and Traders Association (SMMT), said: “The UK’s van and truck markets continued to be sluggish, with sales in the first quarter falling by 46% and 37% year-on-year, respectively, and this situation is likely to continue. Deterioration, so we hope that the government can take measures to increase people’s consumer confidence and stabilize the market.”
